The Countdown to Spring Break
Spring weather may not be in the forecast, but spring has officially sprung into the hearts of our Collaboratory Cubs! They have been eagerly anticipating the adventures that await them on Spring Break, so of course we had to bring some springtime love to our activities this week!
In Pre-K, students worked on building some "eggs-cellent" beds for Mr. Peep in our "Peep Needs Some Sleep" Challenge!
In kindergarten, students learned all about birds and their nests, and they did some research on all of the different types of birds' nests that exist. They also learned how some birds use trash and scraps that they find, along with things from nature, to build their nests, which led to our two "best nest" challenges. First, the students had to use a variety of materials to build a nest where a bird would like to live. Then, they were able to create some abstract nests using jellybeans and toothpicks!
Our first graders put their green thumbs to work this week! Since the weather has been too cold for seeds to grow outside, the firsties created sprout houses so that they can grow herbs and spices in our Indoor Grow Lab that can later be transferred outside to the TES Garden when the weather feels more like spring!
Our second graders continued working on their water filtration systems! We can't wait to see their finished products!
Our third graders took a short break from their submersibles unit to work on some special projects for the third grade sale and for our school. Mr. Crilley's students even started to build a cool reading fort, complete with a lighting system, that will be donated to the TES Library. It's going to be such a cool place for our students to curl up and enjoy a good book!
Our fourth graders completed their Windmill projects! Stop by the display case in front of the Collaboratory to see their finished products! Once they finished their windmills, they started a special project to help promote the T2 Running Club for our younger runners! The fourth graders designed character sticks for the younger runners to collect after each lap they run! The fourth graders are hoping that the younger runners will be so excited to collect the different sticks that it will make them want to run more laps and keep going!
We are looking forward to all of our springtime adventures that are still yet to come!
